Tiled stoves back again, TájGazda

Fireplaces, tiled stoves and furnaces are back again. Development and seemingly abundant fossil energy displaced them out of use. In the sixties of the last century, cheap electricity was used

as a basis for spreading of heat storage stoves, and then the low price of oil resulted in spreading of oil stoves. These radiators called modern replaced the oven or the tile stoves in village houses, sometimes even on farms. Their function was excellent since their appearance in Western Europe in the 13-14th century. Their construction interweaved with art, even the furnace building or the stacking of logs was a true science. Not too many masters even among the tile stove- and fireplace-builders know that Farkas Bolyai, a versatile Hungarian mathematician from Transylvania, has also built a tiled stove. The science of craftsmanship is passed on from father to son. The situation is similar in the family Tumbász from Mali Iđoš in that Miklós continued his father's occupation, and completed the expertise learnt from him by learning on from Zoltán Vass, furnace builder master from Siklós. He builds showy tiled stoves and furnaces nowadays. The renewable energy, primarily biomass serving as cheap heat sources has bringing these stokers that you can call it decoration of an apartment to fore. Let it be farm or farm-house, the furnaces hiding every material which is combustible and radiating heat has been brought back to there. The crop residues serving as the most important fuels are called biomass. Our ancestors did not even know that they had preceded their era with these renewable energy sources.
Master Tumbász uses only brick that is used at constructions too and he lays the floor of the firebox with fireclay. He uses red clay shipped from the clay pit in the boundary of Mali Iđoš and performs the plastering with special method. So, falling off of is not possible. The furnace also includes a pad, which he forms already at the phase of foundation. It is not only used for heating but excellent farmer meals like stuffed cabbage, pork or baked beans can be baked inside but the bread baked inside is the best. Fireplaces or tiled stoves are built in many houses in countryside. There is no difference between the two for an incompetent but as the master says the classification depends on the heat space and the smoke path. In case of a tile stove, the smoke leaves at the back of the heating contraption to the chimney, while the fireplace let that off at the top of the building. To keep the heat warm in the tile stove or the fireplace, it is necessary to make the lining with chamotte tiles. If also the covering is adequate, it keeps heat for at least a day, but the master has also built a tiled stove too that was lukewarm for 48 hours. He makes heating equipment in the pattern of old layered ‘sparhelt’ but admits that his knowledge is tested by the furnace construction he has to build the energy in as well. That’s why they radiates heat even if they are not heated.
